Reddys set the record straight

By KS Murli
After weeks of being in the news for the wrong reasons, the Reddys had decided it was time to be in the news for the right reasons. And so, they set about hunting for the right reasons. “Set the record straight,” an advisor counseled. “Show the public your true face.”
At a poolside party on the terrace of the Reddys’ penthouse, one of the Reddys (it was wasn’t clear, who; they were all dressed in golden-textured sherwanis, and wearing the same diamond-rimmed goggles), sought to allay the misunderstanding among the people about them. “We didn’t know we didn’t want a regime change, to be honest,” be began. Clearly, he was trying too hard to be honest. The audience couldn’t see his goggled eyes, and so fixed their eyes on the giant liquor cabinet and the fully loaded barbecue accidentally placed in front of them.
“Artha ainda?” Reddy asked in impeccable Bellary Canarese.
“Yes, yes,” a gentleman warranted. “You didn’t know you didn’t want a regime change.”
“It’s not such simple,” he said. “To be honest, at the time we wanted a change, but actually we didn’t want it. Artha ainda?” he repeated.
This time no one came forward to step up to the plate. Perhaps they were distracted by the landscape of booze and biryani in front of them, to be honest.
“Let me clarify confusion,” Reddy explained. “First we demanded change. Then suddenly North Karnataka is flooding.” Suddenly, another Reddy (let’s say, Exhibit 2), poked at his namesake and whispered something in his ear. The latter Reddy cleared his throat, and said flatly, “First explanation withdrawn. What I meant was North Karnataka is flooding and after that only we demanded change. But still actually we are not wanting for change.” He paused, to give time to the audience to understand this, and continued, “We are deluding actually. Sorry, we are deluded. Because North Karnataka floods flooded us also with tears. We are full of feeling only. So at that moment, we are out of control and demand CM should be different. But inside heart of heart, it is not telling that only. Now I have set the record straight, so you are not mistaking me!” he said bending forward.
There was a hushed silence in the audience. This man was being really honest, there was absolutely no doubt about that.

“Now only we are interested in floods,” Reddy thundered. “We are going to build houses all over North Karnataka. For that we want contract for our contractor from Government, but CM is putting tax on mining and curbs on mining.” He paused to survey the audience reaction. They were staring at the landscape of booze and biryani counter and realizing that it was the right time to go for the kill, continued, “We want freedom to serve people with biryani and will not let anyone to stop us!”
The audience cheered lustily. A supporter shouted, “When Reddy is mine, can Govt be yours!”
Exhibit 2 gestured to the supporter and took to the mike. “We are in mines and so know how to mined our own business.”

A resounding applause greeted this Reddy-made eulogy. Now it was time for Reddy Exhibit 3 to take to the center stage. “Kannadiga biddas,” he began. “For the last time, let me confirm openly, no-doubtedly and confirmly that Yediur Garu is our CM! So long as he is our CM, we are for development only.” He paused, and added softly, “The second he is not our CM, we will develop another CM. Because we are only committed to our development agenda.”
