Birla Kerala Vaidyashala comes to the Mecca of IT
Yash Birla Group’s ayurveda spa now in the nerve centre of Information Technology
With lifestyle disorders growing at a fast pace among the young workforce in this Mecca of IT, the Birla Kerala Vaidyashala is all geared up to launch its ayurveda wellness spa center, in order to build a nation of healthy professionals as well as expand its business portfolio.
The Birla Kerala Vaidyashala, housed in the upscale Kalyan Nagar, No 304, near Bescom, 5th main, 2nd block, HRBR layout, Bangalore offers readymade ayurvedic rejuvenation therapies carried out by specially trained masseurs under the supervision of ayurveda physicians. With a strong oriental ambience and soothing music, the new Birla Kerala Vaidyashala has been devised to refresh the mind, detoxify the body, sharpen spiritual awareness and restore the natural balance of the energies within. It offers aromatic oils that are teamed with traditional massage techniques, such as stretching, acupressure, warm compress and herbal scrubs to reduce tension and improve circulation.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch, Mr Yash Birla, chairman of Yash Birla Group said, “There is a paradigm shift of healthcare from curative care to preventive care. It is in this segment that systems like Ayurveda score well. The wellness trend is also gaining momentum in the healthcare, firstly because of the new aged well-informed consumer who is becoming health-conscious. Secondly due to inflation and ever-increasing cost of high-end medical care, people are ready to invest more time and energy in preventive healthcare products and practices.”
Mr Yash Birla further added that “The domestic ayurvedic industry market size is currently estimated at Rs 8,000 crore and is poised to increase 20-25% in next two years. This coupled with the steady flow of foreign business travelers will open up enormous business potential. Bangalore accounts for 51 per cent of foreign business travellers visiting India annually. It is an IT hub with a very young workforce and a perfect confluence of both contemporary and traditional lifestyles. We want to capitalize on this business opportunity.”
According to some studies, an increasing number of youngsters are falling prey to severe work pressure and stress-related ailments. The young IT and BPO professionals face a range of problems including computer vision syndrome, cervical spondilitis, hypertension, diabetes, spinal problems, back and neck pains due to sitting for long hours, spondilitis, stress-related insomnia, eating disorders and respiratory problems. The new center was thoughtfully designed to treat lifestyle disorders like osteo arthritis (Sandhi Vaata), rheumatoid arthritis (Aama Vaata), Asthama (Shwasa), acid peptic disorder (Amlapitta), skin disorder (Charmaroga) through a holistic treatment with Ayurveda.
Expressing his delight, Mr Harshjeet Kurup, Managing Director of Birla Kerala Vaidyashala, said “A welcome change is that more and more youngsters are opting for ayurveda. The younger generation is more than willing to make lifestyle changes to prevent these problems from developing further. The Bangalore launch is part of their endeavour to explore newer verticals by continuously staying abreast of the innovations of the healthcare industry. The philosophy behind launching BKV was to provide optimal healing environments in which the social, psychological, spiritual, physical and behavioral components of healthcare are oriented toward support and stimulation of healing and the achievement of wholeness.”

Mr Harshjeet Kurup further stated, “At our ayurveda spa we give people the tools to treat their mind and body according to their needs, leading to emotional and mental wellbeing and good health.” Further, he states that spas that are only offering beauty/skin care treatments will be at a disadvantage as Birla Kerala Ayurveda offers pure, therapeutic spa treatments.
The group plans to invest Rs 50 crore in 200 new therapy centers (including owned and franchisee centres) and 25 herbal cafés in major metros in the next five years. The company is betting big on the economy segment and anticipates 20 economy centers to come up in Maharashtra in the next two years. In Mumbai it has recently opened a new centre in Juhu, and Prabhadevi and will be shortly opening a centre in Napeansea Road.
