Bharatanatyam performance by a Doctor!

Dr. Raksha Jayaram was invited to present a Bharatanatyam dance for the International Conference on Horticulture (ICH-2009) at the ITC Hotel-The  Windsor,Bangalore. Dr Jayaram performed two beautiful choreographies namely Mahadeva shiva shambo in raga revathi set to aadi taala, composed by Tanjavoor Shankara Iyer, and Prashanthi shloka by Pandit Ravi Shankar and S.P Balasubramanyam.

"I fell in love with dancing when I was barely 7. What started off as self styled steps and gigs took a turn when my grand mother noticed my interest and took me to a classical dance class. I believe I just bloomed over the next few years as I dwelled into the intricacies of classical dancing.

I shall always remain grateful to my first guru, Mrs. Anupama Jayasimha for guiding me early on and helping build a strong foundation. This has till this day been one of the pillars for my career. At Vishwa Bharathi Natya Shala, I learnt the nuances of the Pandanallur style of Bharathanatyam,

Under her intense training and watchful eyes, I mastered the adavus and went on to complete my senior grade in Bharathanatyam. Stage performances were aplenty under her tutelage.

It was at this stage in my career I moved on to pursue Abhinaya under the tutelage of guru Bhanumathi at Nritya Kala Mandiram. I continued performing various programs on stage under her guidance, said Dr Jayaram in a detailed interview to TWB.
