Chandru visits flood victims at Mantralaya
"Relief not reaching interior villages"
Chandrashekar Raju, General Secretary, Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress , accompanied by some of his friends and Federation members distributed 400 individual bags of foodgrains to flood victims earlier this week at Mantralaya, and surrounding villages. "Most of the relief items are reaching only the main areas but not reaching to the interior areas, the conditions are very pathetic, people are starving for food, water, medical requirements and literally lying on streets, with temporary shelters, there is more need of help," Raju said. "How much ever we do is not sufficient, the food supplied by us was literally snatched by the people as they are more insecure and worried about their next day's survival."
The Mantralaya temple area surroundings are cleaned up by the Volunteers of Art of Living and other NGO's but interiors areas are stinking the whole atmospheres is stinking with the smell of dead animals and birds. The climate is very hot and the volunteers of Art of Living are suffering without water. Some of the workers and middle class people are suffering, while those who have the support of relatives and friends have moved to neighboring areas. Raju suggested that the government and NGOs concentrate on Vaccine programmes to the victims other than food and shelter, as people might get infected with malaria and other epidemics.
Chandru said flood relief should not be politicized and all political parties should be united in their efforts to reach out to the victims. He also thanked the generous people of Jayanagar, Pattabhiramanagar Ward in particular for their contributions.
Chandru once again appealed to the public and friends not to celebrate the Karnataka Rajyotsava in a grand way and to just hoist the flag. He also requested the people to conduct blood camps, health camps and collection of medicines for the flood victims.
