India International Coffee Festival 2009
The three day festival was to focus on Conferences, Workshops, Awards and Exhibitions 500 delegates participated from India and abroad: 17 countries participated Topical themes were sustainable coffee production, entrepreneurship. India's premiere bi-annual coffee festival - India International Coffee Festival 2009 (IICF 2009) was inaugurated earlier this week by Shri.S.V. Ranganath, Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka. The three-day festival, that will conclude on October 9, 2009 in Bangalore witnessed participation from 500 delegates from over 17 countries comprising of coffee growers, roasters, brewers, exporters and equipment manufacturers.
Mr.S.V. Ranganath inaugurated the exhibition at the festival. About 40 major exhibitors showcased their products at the Coffee Expo during the festival. The countries include Australia, Brazil, Columbia, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Nicaragua, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland UK^ Uganda, USA, UAE,Vietnam.
The dignitaries included Dr. Nestor Osorio, Executive Director, International Coffee Organisation, Shri V.G. Siddhartha, Chairman, ABC Trading Limited, Shri M.H. Ashraff, Managing Director, Tata Coffee Ltd, Shri G.V.Krishna Rau, Chairman, Coffee Board of India and Shri Anil Kumar Bhandari, Convenor and Coordinator, IICF 2009.
In the backdrop of recent unprecedented rain and floods in Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, the IICF 2009 Steering Committee has decided to tone down the social events for all three days. In addition, the committee has also decided to contribute from the IICF 2009 Event fund, a sum of INR 10,00,000 ( Ten Lakhs ) towards the Prime Ministers National Relief Fund.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Anil Kumar Bhandari, Convener and Coordinator, IICF 2009 said, “We are very happy to welcome delegates and stakeholders in the coffee industry from India and all over the world. Their presence in good numbers augurs well for the growth of coffee consumption and growth of the coffee industry in India. Their presence also signifies that IICF is becoming, if not already the premier coffee trade and export event of Asia.
