B'lore loses again to Cyberabad

Who's better? Bangalore or Hyderabad? It's not just Biocon's Kiran Mazumdar Shaw who is wooing the latter, but even World Bank. A study conducted by the World Bank and IFC confirms that Hyderabad has nosed ahead of Bangalore as the most business-friendly city with minimum regulations in the country. The study titled 'Doing Business in South Asia' covered 12 major Indian cities and compares business regulations in South Asia with 175 economies around the world.

The study is certain to raise the hackles of many knowledgeable people, as some of its findings are totally out of sync with reality. For example, consider its ranking of some of the countries. For instance, countries like Pakistan (74), Bangladesh (88), Nepal (100) and Sri Lanka (89) are ranked far ahead of India which is placed at 134, and just ahead of Bhutan (138).

Even in its ranking of Indian cities, the study comes out with some shocking results. The country's number one financial capital, Mumbai, is ranked second last and Kolkata, last. In contrast, cities like Patna, Ranchi, Lucknow and Bhubaneswar are ranked in the middle
