Protest over vegetable market

A forgotten promise by the BMP has raised the cackles of the Cox Town residents. Two years ago, the BMP had demolished the Cox Town vegetables market on the pretext that it was six decades old, promising a better market in its place.

When nothing happened, the vendors shifted base selling their wares in the pavement and on the roads. Given that the market is situated opposite the Cox Town Maternity Home, it is adding to the problem of the motorists, patients and visitors to the hospital.

Earlier this week, Bharatinagar Residents Forum took to the streets, demanding the BMP to act immediately. The forum president, NS Ravi said he has drawn the attention of the BBMP Administrator Dilip Rau and the Commissioner, K Jairaj to the BMP reneging on its promise to the people. "We will not rest till we get our market back," he said.
