Kannada Infomedia was inaugurated at St Joseph’s College campus on 23rd September by M.S. Sathyu, Film Director and theatre personality. Rev. Dr. Fr. Ambrose Pinto, Principal, St. Joseph College, Sri. Vijayaragavendra, HOD, Kannada Department and SJC’s Kannada Sanga president Mr. Aniruddha, presided.
Launching the website, Sathyu said this initiative is critical to students who come from outside States, “One should learn the State language of their place of domicile, in study or business. It should be compulsory like English, Hindi, the national language and the mother tongue,” he said.
While Fr. Ambrose Pinto pointed out that with this free Kannada learning program the college can cater to several students who were from 12 different countries.
What is Kannada Infomedia ?
Kannada Infomedia is a student initiative to propagate Kannada language and culture. The college aims to help non-Kannada speaking community to learn Kannada language and culture, according to Mr. Vibin, Kannada Sanga Member of SJC.
The team:
It is a team of few dedicated students from the association organized by the Department of Kannada. The tem consists of a few Kannada students under the able leadership of Vibin Varghese and his deputy Aniruddha. The project is being conducted under the guidance of the HOD of the Kannada Department, Dr. Vijayaraghavan and the Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr.Amborse Pinto.
The services that it provides are free of cost and hence can encourage a more involved and through learning process.

The website www.kannadainfomedia.com will help not only the college students but everybody who would like to learn Kannada, said Subbalakshmi, Kannada Sanga member. There will be wall chart, power point presentation twice a month and online learning aids on the website.
The wall chart shall contain transliteration of simple and basic Kannada words and sentences in English and Hindi. It shall also contain information on star personalities and famous places in Karnataka while the former shall be changed every day, the letter will be changed weekly there shall be three wall charts one in front of canteen another in the humanities block and one in the science block.
