A Fun Filled Day for the Young Sporting Talents of Samarthanam

Last Saturday 12th of September 2009 was a fun filled day at Samarthanam. All the children of Samarthanam on that day had a rocking time with Oracle volunteers at Samarthanam primary school ground at HSR Layout. Oracle had organized an athletic programme for the children with disabilities of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled.
The day began with an inauguration by Mrs. Vasanthi Savanur, Trustee of Samarthanam. She inaugurated the meet by throwing the short put. She in her address praised the importance of athletics and sports in the development of the personalities of the youth. She also appreciated the Oracle volunteers for their selfless action towards Samarthanam's children by motivating them through these kind of sporting events.
The event had the participation of 32 volunteers from Oracle who were lead by Mr.Sunil Kashyap, who also coordinated the event. Over 120 students from Samarthanam also participated. This whole day event had indoor and outdoor games. Children participated and won prizes in various games like shot-put, passing ball , musical chairs, breaking the pot, anthakshari & quiz.
Mr.Sunil Kashyap of Oracle ,the volunteering coordinator in his feedback was very appreciative about the positive ness and the optimistic attitude of the students. He commented - " Hats off to all the students of Samarthanam school who participated with full enthusiasm and true sportsman spirit. I and all the volunteers from the Oracle side had a marvelous time with the students, who being visually handicapped showed us the way to keep ourselves content with whatever we have in our life. I guess most of the credit goes to the Managing Trustee Mr.Mahentesh for his vision and determination". He also thanked Mr.Chandrashekhar, sports coordinator Samarthanam , for his consistent support co-operation and inputs in organizing this event.
 Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, a non-government organization which has, for the last 12 years, worked and envisioned to empower people who are differently abled and are from insolvent background of our society, to keep them in pace with the lightening development of success by providing them to achieve their maximum level of quality education, reasonable accommodation, nutritious food, vocational training, placement based rehabilitation and personal independence. This organization was started by three educated, visually challenged individuals, mentored by a highly motivated, focused and determined young man G.K Mahantesh. For the last 12 years the organization provides an array of specialized services to the physically challenged, visually impaired, and under privileged people of all ages to assist them in attaining the skills, confidence and positive outlook that are critical to independence.
Samarthanam emphasize on evolving a healthy sports culture within the organization and the sports wing of Samarthanam does it successfully. Excellence in sports was one of the positive aspects for the disabled youth to access gainful employment. Participation in the sports is encouraged, adequate facilities are provided, and innovative opportunities are created for the sportspersons to make the best use of their abilities to realize their dreams.
Samarthanam blind cricket team participated and won several national level and international cricket tournaments for the blind. Even Samarthanam cricket team plays special matches with corporate cricket teams in Bangalore to promote the vision of an inclusive society and awareness about the rights of the disabled.
