When the amputees can dance with joy and hope

ARTIFICIAL LIMB DONATION BY ROTARACT AND ROTARY CLUB OF JAYANAGAR

It was yet another day which brought smiles on the faces of physically challenged people who are facing locomotor disabilities. The Rotaract Club of Jayanagar, Bangalore and Rotary Club of Jayanagar, Bangalore, in association with Sri Mahaveer Jain Sahayatha Samithi and Sri Mahavir Jain Hospital held an Artificial Limb donation program for the third successful year. Unlike the past few years where Artificial Limb donation was conducted in Bangalore, this year it was conducted at Kanakapura. "The outskirts of Bangalore often get neglected when such programs are conducted and most of the times the patients are not able to reach the camps and hence get devoid of our help.
Rotary Bangalore Jayanagar Past President and Artificial Limb Project Chairman Rtn. Ashok Maheshwari, pointed out that hundreds and thousands on Indian amputees suffer from disability and many of them from lower income group do not find free source to get it .
The distribution of Jaipur foot which has made it mark in India, Australia, Latin America, North America. Malaysia, Afghanistan, Columbia and South Asian countries will be taken up in a big way by Rotary. "We at Rotary Jayanagar with support from Rotaract want to reach maximum number of amputees in Karnataka and make difference in their lives by this support. 40 amputees benefitted from the camp and we at Rotary Jayanagar have plan to scale up project and give it to 500 people this year as continuous project,." Rtn Ashok said.
 Low cost Jaipur foot innovated by Shri Ramcharan Sharam in 1965 has brought revolution itself. This Jaipur foot is 200 times cheaper in cost and effectively serves the purpose. Amputees can jump, run walk on tree and play sports.
Participants were delighted that such a program was being conducted. "I met with an accident while going in a two wheeler two years back. I got my treatment in a local hospital, but lost my leg. I was not aware of Artificial Limbs till now. This is the first time I am getting an Artificial Limb, and I am very happy that I will be able to walk again", said Ramesh T from Ramanagaram.
 President of Rotaract Jayanagar Rotaractor Pooja and Project Chair of Rotaract  Jayanagar Sourabha J said "Artificial Limb Donation has been the flagship project of Rotaract Club of Jayanagar and we are proud to announce that so far we have donated 201 limbs. Our motto is to create a better tomorrow for the society we live in and "Disha" is one such medium to do so."
