Campaign against smoking in public
S.A.V.E Trust in association with BBMP Health Department & Sumangali Sevashrama launched a special 'Campaign Against Smoking in Public Places'. This awareness campaign which will run for duration of 15 days was blessed & flagged off by Sri Sri Sri Vishwateertha Pajwara Swamiji on 1st August 2009 (Saturday) at 1.30 pm at BBMP's Head Office, Bangalore. The program was also attended by various BBMP officials, City Civil Court Registrar & Judges, Health Dept officials & government representatives.
Following the directive of the Supreme Court, this 15 day campaign starting from 1st August aims to sensitize the public towards this punishable offense & also create awareness on the effects of smoking. BBMP plans to strictly implement this rule & initiate mobile squads to check & levy fine on people found smoking in public places.
The awareness squad comprising of volunteers and medical practioners will visit locations like KSRTC Bus Stands, BMTC Bus Stands, Railway Stations, Government Offices and other popular hot spots in the city. A special written appeal is also being handed over to the governing bodies to enforce this rule in their premises. Stickers educating the public on the smoking ban will be displayed on BMTC buses and government vehicles during this period.
