Sankalp

One-stop training for A-Z needs

Someone important is coming home for lunch and you are not a good cook! You want to learn Reiki but don't know where to start. For all such problems in day to day life, Sankalp offers a bouquet of solutions through its various and varied skills. Padma Subbaiah of Sankalp tells you how, in this interview:

How is Sankalp different from other training organisations?

Sankalp does not merely run a fixed set of courses like other organisations do. We customise our training programmes according to the need. Our focus is to develop excellent faculty and help both trainers and trainees reach their maximum potential. We want to ensure that trainers gain as much from the programmes as the trainees do!

What is your vision?
Our vision is to help create a self-sustaining society where people learn to help themselves and evolve in the process. We aim to help people achieve the best they are capable of being.
In an effort to keep up with expensive lifestyles, people undergo a great deal of stress. And when recession affects their way of life, their stress increases and they are not able to handle the situation.
At the same time, there is a wealth of untapped potential in society. There are people whose natural talents have yet to flower. They have so much to offer society. We want to make them aware of this.

What kind of people you are talking about?
The people we target come from all walks of life-young or old, affluent or underprivileged. So many people can gain from proper training, counselling, and guidance. Let's discuss some of these:

1.Young people, fresh out of high school or college, who see more opportunities before them than their parents did. They grab lucrative jobs in BPOs, retail chain stores, garment factories, and so on. High work pressure and retrenchment in these sectors disillusion them.
You need training and guidance to look at life from the right perspective, alternative vocational training, too.

2.Highly educated and highly skilled young professionals who are racing up the career ladder. So focussed are they on academic and professional achievement that their life skills are inadequate. They may be awkward in handling interpersonal relationships.
You need training in areas such as care for the home, children, and for the elderly. Also, to know how to handle emotions and face life's challenges without feeling defeated.

3.Accomplished, intelligent, middle-aged professionals who have much to contribute. Post superannuation/ voluntary retirement, they retain their zeal for life and work.
You need to harness your energy into offering knowledge and wisdom to society.

4.People feeling constrained by domestic chores and looking after geriatric parents or young children. They play the role of domestic caretakers and need to be sensitised to the elderly-their needs, emotions, and dignity.
You need help in the form of counselling and training. You may also need home-care helpers.

Quick analysis shows that a viable employment alternative for Group No. 1 could be home care (for instance, there is great demand for trained nursing professionals. If trained properly, Group 1 can help Group 4. Similarly, Group 4 can help Group 2 by providing training in life skills, housekeeping, and so on.

So are you developing an interlinked web of people and a parallel web of programmes?
Yes! You can see how one set of people could be trainers, but might need training in other areas.

What areas of training are you looking to provide?

  • Life education-decisions, values, and vision-value alignment
  • Geriatric and nursing care at home
  • Housekeeping and home decor
  • Cookery and table etiquette
  • Prenatal, postnatal, and baby care
  • Yoga and alternative medicine
  • Self-help groups and home entrepreneurship

What is Sankalp's role in all this?
Sankalp will provide the platform. We will source the right kind of people for the right kind of job. We will train the trainers. We will facilitate this initiative by identifying venues, trainees, and trainers to begin our programme.

What do you need from us?
We need front-end and back-end support. We need institutions that will support us by sourcing those who need help. We also need institutions which will help in the placement of these trained individuals. We are open to exploring several forms of collaboration to ensure we reach our ultimate goal: to set in motion a chain of change which will continuously help society evolve and grow.

Give us a few examples of the queries you get?
I have just retired but I want to keep my knowledge and skills alive..

My mother-in-law needs full time care.. how do I handle this?
We entertain at home and I want to learn how to cook really well?
I want to learn about Reki and Pranayama to deal with stress.
I want to know all about baby care.
I need a trustworthy care giver to my baby
Sankalpa: is a bouquet of learning. Our vision is to create a self-sustained society where people learnt to help themselves and evolve in the process.
