Mafia-style daylight murder in Jayanagar

Bangalore's real estate can be accused of many things, but at least, it is not so criminalized like Mumbai. Right? Wrong. Thursday, Feb 15, a ghastly daylight murder on East End 'D' Main Road, 9th Block, Jayanagar proved that the mafia is alive and kicking in. The target: Former corporator and Congress leader Samiulla. The victims: His assistant, Ravi, and receptionist, Shylaja. The suspected Mastermind: Underworld Don Ravi Poojari.

Two unidentified killers masked with full face helmets came on a motorbike to Shabnam Developers, the real estate office of Samiulla, and pumped six bullets from a .9mm pistol at point blank range, killing Ravi, Samiulla's right hand man on the spot, and grievously injuring Shylaja in her abdomen and ribs. The killers had apparently come in search of Samiulla, but he narrowly escaped death, as he had left the office a few minutes ago for a site inspection.

Barely a few minutes before the incident, Ravi asked Samiulla's brother, Akram Pasha to get him a Pan, and the latter had gone out to Lucky Store across the street. A thoroughly shaken Pasha relates the gory incident, "While I was standing near the shop, I heard a loud noise from inside the office. I thought a computer had blown up due to short circuit. When I rushed inside the office, I saw Shylaja and Ravi lying in a pool of blood. Shylaja cried out at me, "Shooting" and I ran out to see a man hiding something behind his back and running towards a motorcycle which was manned by another person. Both were wearing helmets and so you could not see their faces. They sped away towards Dairy Circle. With the help of some of our customers who were at the office at the time, we rushed them to the hospital. While Ravi who was hit on the forehead, had died instantly, Shailaja was taken in an ambulance to the Sagar Apollo hospital, where she was declared brought dead."
