Over 41 cartoonists from across the country will showcase their political cartoons in a fortnight long cartoon exhibition that was inaugurated at the Indian cartoon gallery at No 1 Midford House, off MG Road. All the cartoonists were participants of the Maya Kamath Memorial cartoon contest.
Girish Karnad, noted playwright and actor and Jnanpitha award winner, while inaugurating the Special Cartoon exhibition said "Cartooning is a special art and the health of the political economy is portrayed by cartoonists." Karnad also said that he was impressed by the Indian Institute of Cartoonists (IIC) as it is one of its kind in India which is enhancing the dying art by encouraging young and upcoming talent.

Later, he donated "Years of Laughter" a book on cartooning by Kutty, a cartoonist from Kerala to the IIC.
V G Narendra, Managing trustee, IIC speaking on the occasion, expressed his happiness over the overwhelming response and his gratitude towards Ashok Kheny, Managing Director of NICE Ltd for having given a platform for aspiring cartoonists. He announced that this was a special exhibition as it was the silver jubilee exhibition by the IIC. The Indian Institute of Cartoonists which inaugurated the Indian Cartoon Gallery last year has hosted 25 exhibitions so far including the current one.

The Special Cartoon Exhibition showcasing more than 71 cartoons will be on for public viewing till 25th July 2009 at The Indian Cartoon Gallery, No 1 Midford Gardens, Behind Big Kids Kemp, Off MG Road, Bangalore- 1, from 10a.m to 6p.m.  For further details call: 080-4175 8540
