With digital radio
KSCA goes technology savvy
Umpires and Ground-persons provided with next generation digital radio communication handsets from Procall
In keeping with the reputation of the city, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has added one more feather to the state's cap: The KSCA has opted for Procall, India's first and only Digital Radio Trunking service in India featuring Motorola's iDEN® (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network) for use among the umpires officiating in matches held in Karnataka, the ground's men and other officials, to coordinate more smoothly and efficiently. With this KSCA becomes the first association to adapt the digital radio with the PTT facility (Push-To-Talk). The new digital technology with sleek handsets and many more advantages than the conventional analog radio which are currently being used in other places, gives the umpires, ground's men and other officials easier, swifter and effective communication gadgets that will ensure smoother proceedings in all matches.
Commenting on this development B K Ravi, Honorary Assistant Secretary (Tournaments), KSCA, said, "We were earlier using analog walkie-talkies which our umpires found too bulky to carry - especially because they need to constantly move around and even run during a match. When we took Procall's Digital Push-To-Talk service the umpires and ground staff found the handsets sleek and easy to carry around. They are now more flexible and agile and are happy with the technology. We have already used the Digital PTT for Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy held recently here."
The umpires and the ground staff like score keeper among others have been impressed by the technology and the usability. The audio clarity and of the handset is very high and the umpires can smoothly communicate even when the stadium is filled with spectators. "Our umpires have given us the feedback that they will highly recommend this technology for their Umpire's Association. We would upgrade it to the Bluetooth facility that Procall is capable of providing for the next matches. It will help umpires to keep a count on the balls bowled in an over, etc and there will be smoother coordination between the umpires helping the match carry on seamlessly," B K Ravi added
Mr. K. Satyanarayana, CEO, Procall, said, "We are pleased that KSCA has found good use of our services. Procall's first ever digital PTT service in India is a landmark event for the telecom industry in India and it will now be a landmark event for cricket also. As in sports, Indian businesses are governed intrinsically by teams rather than by individuals and, thus, need that critical and instant one-to-many connectivity. All enterprises that live by this principle will find Procall's Digital PTT service an indispensable communication tool."

PTT started off as a widely used technology in construction and security services segment but is now a common feature in a wide array of verticals including healthcare, security, hospitality, fleet management, entertainment & event management, sales force management, supply chain management, cargo & couriers and other enterprises requiring teamwork. This technology helps users to connect instantly within their talk group and outside their talk group at the push of a button.
The digital PTT service provides a much more user-friendly communications tool than the earlier analog version. Users benefit from clearer digital sound, longer battery life, lighter weight handsets, and a wider selection of eye appealing handsets at lower prices. Existing two-way wireless communication in India is largely based on analog radio technology with bulky, expensive handsets that are heavy on power consumption. Service reach as well as features are limited thus limiting usage and minimizing the utilization of PTT.
Procall's Digital Service offering apart from providing the users all the benefits of traditional radio trunking, also facilitates services such as GPS and Java based Value Added Services and a host of business utility enhancements.
