Honour to Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing

The prestigious 'Vocational Excellence Award' instituted by the 'Rotary Bangalore Orchards', a rolling shield in the name of Smt. Gangamma and Sri Subramanyam Holla, was conferred to Dr. S.R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing here on Friday.
At a glittering ceremony, the Minister for Medical Education Shri Ramachandre Gowda presented the award to the Dr. S.R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing.
Rotary Bangalore Orchards has instituted the award for vocational excellence during the year 2006-07. Since then the Rotary Bangalore Orchards has been honouring the institutions, organizations and persons for their dedication for the service to the society. During the year 2006-07 the award was conferred to Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatha Nature Cure Hospital at Ujire in Dharmasthala. The next year's award was presented to Akshaya Patra Foundation in Bangalore.
This year, Rotary Bangalore Orchards has decided to confer this prestigious award to Dr. S.R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing, which was established in 1977 by Dr. Chandrasekhar, an ENT Specialist.
In 1977 Dr. Chandrasekhar felt the need for starting an institution to cater to the need of children with hearing disabilities to pursue their further studies, since the normal institutions do not possess expertise and equipments to teach children with hearing disabilities. The institution in awarding BSLPA, MASLP, M.Sc.(SLP), M.Sc., (Aud) and PhD degrees in speech and Hearing Courses and affiliated to the Bangalore University. It is also conducting courses and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India, a statutory Authority establishment Government of India to regulate course dealing with rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
Dr. S.R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing has built a vast infrastructure which comprises of State of the Art diagnostic and treatment facilities comprising of technologically advanced audiometers, computers with latest software programmes for diagnosis and treatment of speech, language and
hearing disorders. Moreover the institution is a unique institution and first of its kind in Bangalore and the lone ISO 9001-2000 certified institution in the state to cater the needs of disabled children.

The award ceremony is the culmination of few months of work undertaken by the research team of Rotary Bangalore Orchards constituted for the purpose. Several persons and organisations were short-listed and finally the Dr. S.R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing was selected for its social service.
In his speech the Chief Guest Shri D.H. Shankara Murthy, Former Minister and the Vice Chairman for Karnataka State Planning Board, applauded the services of Rotary Bangalore Orchards and Dr. S.R. Chandrasekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing. Rotary Bangalore Orchards President Rtn. K.S. Govindraj, Secretary Rtn. R. Ravikumar, Chairman Rtn. Harikrishna S. Holla  narrated the purpose of giving Vocational Excellance Award every year to the deserving organizations and applauded the efforts of Dr. S.R. Chandrashekhar in establishing the Institute for the benefit of special children .president K.S. Govindaraj welcomed the gathering. Rtn. Ravikumar proposed the vote of thanks. The members of the Rotary Bangalore Orchards and other District Officials were also  present.
