Shoma Kaikini

YOUTH ICON 2008 – 2009

Shoma Kaikini

True achievers take the road not taken before. Shoma Kaikini chucked her Commerce degree to pursue her passion - dance. She ditched a job-oriented study in favour of something that was to be her career. People around her chided her for taking a silly and big risk.
Well, the tide has turned and the same people are flocking to her Nrityanidhi dance school in Mumbai, which she started at her ripe old age of 19 years. You can catch Shoma's programmes in You Tube.
Shoma has been experimenting with Indian dances since many years and has produced many marvelous choreographic works.  Many of her old students have joined her as teachers to spread the concept of Nrithyanidhi.

Her work in dance took her to Tanzania for a performance, and an interview in NDTV. Her clarity in thought and expression has helped many foreigners from US and Australia understand the nuances of Indian dance and culture during their visit to India. She is even poised to be featured in the foreign magazine ELLE.

"I don't do dance for money," says Shoma. "I do it because I love it. My dance school is my temple."
Dance is life for Shoma and she does it for her passion, and not for pension.
She has choreographed and performed many dance programmes in different cities of India.  Through her dance, she has helped raise funds for many NGOs.
She is sought after by many institutions and corporate for her performance because of her quality of service and dedication to excellence.
