Samarthanam Blind Cricket team won

the Elbit Plaza-Samarthanam ‘Champions Trophy-2009’


Champions Trophy-2009The Samarthanam Blind cricket team showed their talent in telling style by beating the Elbit Plaza team by 36 runs to spare in an eight hour tournament at the St.John’s Medical College ground, Bangalore earlier this week.
The tournament was inaugurated at St.John’s Medical college ground by Mahantesh.G.K, the Founder Managing trustee of Samarthanam Trust for Disabled and Mr. Yair Kohavi, Chief legal Council, Elbit Plaza India Real Estate Pvt.Ltd lighted the torch and officially announced the match. To open the tournament Mr.Mahantesh and Mr.Kohavi symbolically played a few bowls as a prelude to the match.
Mr.Mahantesh complemented Elbit Plaza for its generosity and concern towards the visually impaired cricket players of Samarthanam. Mr.Kohavi expressed the whole hearted joy and showed his willingness to be a part of other activities of Samarthanam in future. He added that smile on the lips of these blind players gave him immense ecstasy and satisfaction.
Mr.Yossi Ofir  along with All the management of Elbit Plaza India, expressed whole hearted  wishes and regards to Samarthanam for their extraordinary volunteered work for the society, and acknowledged that Elbit Plaza India will support the weaker and underprivileged section of the society of the Country by conducting various events in the year to come, he concluded by saying all the Corporate in the Country should join hands for such noble causes under taken by Samarthanam and create a better place to live. 
Samarthanam in association with Elbit Plaza India Real Estate Pvt.Ltd  had organized The Elbit Plaza-Samarthanam ‘Champions Trophy-2009’ between samarthanam blind cricket team and the three different teams from Elbit Plaza. More over a fun match, the main aim behind this match was to develop a friendly relationship with corporate and Samarthanam.
Champions Trophy-2009S.P Nagesh, another founder trustee of Samarthanam and Mr. Yair presented the winners Trophy to Samarthanam team. Mr. Eyal Broder, CFO, Elbit Plaza India and Mr.Carlos Prus, Chief Architect, Elbit Plaza India presented the runners Trophy to Elbit Plaza Team C. S.P.Nagesh presented one laptop to the winner team on behalf of Samarthanam.

There were total three matches took place.
Lead Match – Team A from Elbit Plaza v/s Samarthanam Team
Result : Team A hit 50 runs in 5 overs with 3 wickets and samarthanam finished it in 4 overs no lose and won the match by 51 runs.
2. Second Match – Team D from Elbit Plaza v/s Team C Elbit Plaza
Result: team C scored 42 runs in 5 overs and Team B scored 36 runs in five overs. this Team C won the match.
Final Match – Samarthanam Team v/s Team C Elbit Plaza
Result: team samarthanam scored 73 runs in six over and Team C scored 37 runs in 2 wickets. Samarthanam won the match by 36 runs .

The major differences between the laws of conventional cricket and blind cricket are:
1.The team is made up of a mixture of vision impaired and totally blind players.
2. The game is played with an audio ball made of hard plastic and filled with tiny ball
     Bearing.
3. Usually the stump is made of metal.
4. Bowling is under arm and the ball has to pitch once before the mid pitch.
5. The bowler gives an audio clue before bowling and the batsmen gives and audio
     clue when he is ready.
6. The wickets are screwed together to ensure they are aligned.
7. The boundary is 45 yards from the pitch.
8. One team comprises of 11 players.
