This electoral officer means business

Ajay Nagabhushan

Ajay Nagabhushan, the newly posted Additional Commissioner South & District Election Officer, Bangalore South, was a rank holder all through his academic career, right from SSLC to MBBS, when he secured the 17th all India rank. He is also known for his role in solving the major water problem in Sournoor. As the municipal council commissioner in Hubli, he received many awards for his outstanding performance.
An officer known for his integrity and no-nonsense approach, Ajay Nagabhushan quickly showed he means business when he took charge on Friday, March 27. He was very prompt in following procedures and did not give any scope for the political parties during their nomination, including even the sitting MP and the ruling party, the BJP's Ananth Kumar. Only four people were allowed inside the electoral office chambers to file nomination excluding the candidate. Soon after Ananth Kumar filed his nomination he was strictly asked to go outside the compound and give his briefing to the press and media. Ananth Kumar was accompanied by his wife Tejeshwini Ananth Kumar, BJP leaders Venkaiah Naidu, R. Ashok and BN Vijayakumar, Jayanaga MLA.

Till March 30, more than 25 applications were issued for nominations. Several independent candidates evinced interest in filing nomination, some of them coming alone to the electoral office to collect the forms. SCUI candidate Dr. Jayalakshmi who has filed her nomination said that in Karnataka her party would be contesting 5 LS seats and 40 seats in the country overall.
The officials said the last date for filing of nomination is 6th of April, 11 am, the last date of withdrawal will be 8th April 2009, 3 pm. The deposit payable for the nomination is Rs.10000/-.
