IIPM's Big Night of Awards

The night of March 25, was a special one for the cognoscenti of Bangalore city and the state where champions from all walks of life - business, politics, sports and social development shared the same stage reveling in the spirit of achievement at The Sunday Indian and IIPM Regional Excellence Awards. It was a first of its kind in the country awards ceremony recognizing regional achievers held at Leela Palace.
The awards are a joint initiative of The Sunday Indian and The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), one of South Asia's most respected B-Schools.
With Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri, the Chairman of Planman Group and the Editor-in-chief of The Sunday Indian giving away the awards, the night saw a host of big winners in various categories.
From a consumer brand like Café Coffee Day, which bagged the award for the most enterprising company to a heavy engineering and manufacturing PSU like BEML Limited, which won the best PSU award the best of Karnataka was showcased at the awards.
There were individual winners galore too as Pankaj Advani picked up a special award for contribution to sports, and Syed Kirmani an award for contribution to sports in the state. The man behind India's historic moon mission, the Director of ISRO, G Madhavan Nair was awarded for his contribution to science and technology while Chetan Maini, the man behind India's pioneering electric vehicle Reva picked up the award for innovation. Kris Gopalakrishnan, the CEO of one of the state's and the country's most admired companies picked up the prestigious Best Company award as well as the Best Corporate Ethics in a double win for Infosys.
Karnataka's very own milk brand KMF's Nandini walked away with the most valuable brand in the state award picked up by the KMF MD Mr. Ramalinge Gowda and Titan was awarded the most reputed national brand in the state. The Bangalore Traffic police's continuous efforts at sensitizing the public about road safety earned them the best campaign towards social change and HAL was adjudged the most valuable company.
Social contributions were also at the forefront of the recognitions with Toyota path breaking 'Greenathon' campaign getting them the Best CSR Initiative and Dr. Devi Shetty being awarded for contribution to social entrepreneurship through Narayana Hrudayalaya. The best strategy award went to United Breweries and the chairman of UB group, Dr. Vijay Mallya was conferred the Jewel of the Nation award.
All the winners had one thing in common, a ruthless pursuit of excellence in what they do which has endeared them to society. And that spirit is what celebrating excellence at India's first ever Regional Excellence Awards was all about.
