Red Bull Paper Wings 2009 Contest
All it took was a piece of paper. It was of secondary importance what form the ordinary piece of paper (80g/m2) took when it took off from the contestant's hand. Welcome to the national finals round of the Red Bull Paper Wings 2009 contest. Meditating, tinkering and testing the aerodynamics were what needed to be done. All forms of assistance or supplementary devices were forbidden in the three categories of the competition - "longest distance", "longest airtime" and "aerobatics".
Only in the aerobatics round were the hobby engineers allowed to use scissors, glues and other materials.
The winners of Red Bull Paper Wings 2009 Contest are:
Longest Distance - 29.2 meters by Karan Shah of Poddar College, Mumbai
Longest Airtime - 7.16 seconds by Ryan Gibbs of St. Josephs College of Commerce, Bangalore
Aerobatics - Bipin Chinnappa, highest score of 24 (awarded by the Judges), CMR Institute of Management Studies, Bangalore
These pilots who excelled in their respective categories will see themselves on a real plane to Austria in May 2009, for the chance of a lifetime.... to compete in the finals at the awe-inspiring Hanger 7 on the Salzburg runway.
