Ramalinga Reddy, BTM MLA

'60% of Promises Kept'

Ramalinga Reddy

When you have experience it shows. Five-time Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy knows how to nurse his constituency. That's why the fact that he was shifted from Jayanagar his 'home pitch', to neighbouring BTM made no difference. That he was an opposition MLA also made no difference. His office as always is crowded with people with petitions, his workers and party sympathizers.
At first look, BTM Layout was a tough constituency to take care of; it was carved out of many backward wards from Uttarahalli. A year ago, the roads in Koramangala, Madivala and Ejipura were in a very bad condition. But now, they wear a new and more friendly look, in Koramangala, Jakkasandra, HSR Layout, Police Quarters, Teachers Colony, and the newly widened road near St John's hospital. Almost the entire constituency boasts of streetlights, while new water and sanitary lines have been laid in Venkatapura and Jakkasandra, drainage pipes replaced in NGV Club, AK Colony, which residents said had not been done for the past four decades!
Unassuming and accessible to one and all, Ramalinga Reddy told TWB that he was waiting for the sanction of funds for constructing community halls in Koramangala, KSRP, Lakkasandra and Madivala. His supporters gave a detailed list of the road works being taken up by Reddy:
•Chip carpeting and tarring in Kaveripalya Layout costing Rs 50 lakh;
•Concrete road at Venkateshwara Layout, Philomena School surroundings costing Rs.40 lakh;
•Concrete road  behind KS officers Colony, at a cost of Rs.30 lakh;
•Tar work to damaged roads at Mico Layout, Bharathi HB Society Layout, Icoob Nagar, BDA flats and other left over roads in ward 65;
•Rs 70 lakh worth tenders called for, for development of parks all over the constituency; * 995 Sodium Vapor lights sanctioned out of which 700 already installed;
•Tar road and footpath laid between Hosur Road to 20th Main BTM Ring Road;
•Madiwala Anjaneyaswamy temple road, VP Road - tar work, foot path works completed at a cost of Rs 1 crore;

•Old Madiwala and surroundings Concrete works of Rs.45 lakh completed;
•1st Block approach road to ST Bed area in ward 68 - tarring completed at a cost of Rs17 lakh;
•Tar road and foot path on Nirgun Mandir road - Rs 17 lakh project will be completed in a month's time;
•Asphalting on 16th to 20th Main BTM - overall cost Rs 1 crore;
•Asphalting of road from 7th to 15th Main - total cost Rs 1 crore;
•Asphalting in NS Palaya surrounding areas, Pushpa Layout, Ambikaa Layout;
•De-silting, culvert works, tarring, metaling at Kudas Layout - cost Rs 20 lakh;
According to Reddy, at least 60% of his election promises have been fulfilled, and the rest of the promises would be fulfilled in a few months time.
His Plan BTM for the future includes a swimming pool, public library, indoor stadium and playground, development and up-gradation of all underdeveloped parks, upgrading the existing Government Hospital in NS Palya, underpass at 16th Main junction, and remodeling of the bus stand.
