Breakthrough in gene therapy for visual disorders

Surgeries will soon become passe as Gene Therapy is going to take the world by storm. Dr. Sunita Rana Agarwal of Dr. Agarwal Hospitals announced a breakthrough in research earlier this week, wherein a patient is treated for disorders by replacing the defective gene with a new one. "It is a one-of-its-kind therapy which involves a patient's bioengineered DNA harvested under sterile conditions so that it can be injected into the dead or dying nerves or tissue (cell) of the patient," Dr Agarwal stated.
Gene therapy deals with the DNA pattern of patients with eye diseases like corneal vascularization, retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, keratoconous, corneal opacity, visual field defects. It involves taking 2ml of patient's plasma, filtered and Mana added. This leads to formation of Mana cells and amplified DNA. This is given back to the patient as an injection course. Gene therapy has been performed on patients with various eye ailments and has shown objective improvement in corneal vascularization and striate keratitis within few days. Gene therapy is one of the frontiers of the way future treatments will be based.
Dr Agarwal said the patient's blood is drawn and customized DNA is injected back into the patient's eye. This simple procedure involves the patient's plasma containing WBC and is treated with Mana which leads to DNA amplification and Manacell formation within seconds. On addition of Mana to the patients' plasma huge chains of DNA are formed with varying sizes. The response is immediate and the patient is once again able to see light, since the patient's own DNA, bioengineered and harvested for this purpose, is used.
According to Dr. Sunita Agarwal, "Any new research in science is magic till it is replicated and debated. I personally believe that if gene therapy is applied extensively to all aspects of treatment surgeries may be replaced and will mean less trauma and recovery time for patients."
