Visually impaired celebrate Republic Day
Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled celebrated Republic
Day with traditional fanfare. Local leaders from different political parties and eminent citizens took part in the function. Mr. Mahantesh G.K, Managing Trustee, Samarthnam Trust, and other guests hoisted the National tricolor and sang the National anthem. This was followed by a cultural programme of dance and skit by the high school children.
Mr. H.P. Vernekar delivered the welcome address. Mr. Munikrishnappa, BJP leader, spoke on how the children could imbibe essential values early in life. Mr Srinivasamurthy, Congressman, dwelt at length on the Indian Constitution and how it was formed. Mr. Krishnamurthy chaired the meet. Rajesh sang a few patriotic songs, and Pushparaj, Youth Congress, recalled the achievements of BR Ambedkar.
Parthasarathi, advocate, and Mahantesh, expressed their gratitude to Swaroop Kumar, Meenakshi Temple, for funding Rs 6 lakh towards cost of a hall for the Trust.
10th standard student Naveen proposed the vote of thanks.
