"Ill-behaved cops, Tell Me!

All the Police stations will soon have 2 Inspectors and 8 Sub Inspector, informed Sri Shankar Bidari, Bangalore City Police Commissioner, during an interaction meet organised by the Federation of Jayanagar Welfare Association at MES School Auditorium on the eve of Sankranti. The meeting was about Effective Policing, Traffic Management and steps to reduce crime in the city.
Representatives from 14 affiliated resident welfare association took part in the interaction. Sri B.N. Vijaykumar, MLA, Jayanagar, and federation president, Sri Bhaskar Murthy, Keshav, secretary, Bhaskar Rao, senior journalist, Venkat Reddy, MES President and N. Nagaraju, Ex. Corporator chaired the meet. Apart from the Police Commissioner, the city police was represented by senior police officers viz. Sri Poojar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Praveen Sood, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Gopal Hosur, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravi, DCP South and Ramesh Chandra, ACP.
The main complaints from the residents of Jayanagar pertained to the hawkers and mobile eateries encroaching on the footpaths, plying of private buses in the small bylanes of Jayanagar, and parking of buses in no parking zones. Sri Bhaskar Murthy urged for increasing the manpower at the police stations, increase frequency of day and night patrolling, and involving residents associations to reduce crime rate.
He also suggested that the Police Department make it compulsory for all residents to provide details of tenants, appointment of servants/cooks/drivers. There was also a suggestion to conduct traffic awareness programmes with a focus on school going children and college going students.
Sri Bhaskar of 5th Block, Jayanagar Residents Welfare Association said the Department should display the mobile numbers of the police officials in prominent public places like Parks, Traffic Junctions, Temples, so that any afflicted resident can tip off the police immediately about any untoward incident. He also made the following suggestions viz. post additional traffic personnel to supervise the movement of vehicles on Thursdays in the vicinity of Raghavendra Swamy Temple, get the medians and road humps painted regularly to prevent accidents, and include Traffic Safety as a part of syllabus in the school curriculum.
Some members complained about the behaviour of police department staff, encroachment of footpaths by small business establishments, parks being used for illegal activity. 
Replying to the suggestions, Sri Shankar Bidari categorically said in future the public could directly contact him on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 3 pm and 5pm at his office, to report any arrogant behaviour by the police.

In his concluding remarks, Sri B.N. Vijaykumar, Jayanagar, MLA appealed to the Police Commissioner to hold awareness programs in colleges and computerize police stations and appealed to the residents to be aware of the dangers posed by anti-social elements. They should immediately bring to the notice of the police, the vehicle number of speeding vehicles and thus contribute in reducing crime in the city.
