World Braille Day celebrations

Samarthanam releases book on 'Music in Braille'

Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled celebrated World Braille Day on Jan 4. This year marks the 200th anniversary since the introduction of Braille. Noted personalities like Sri.Yathiraj Naidu, renowned freedom fighter, Y.N. Ramesh, Professor, National College and Sri Lakshmi Narayan Guptha took part in the celebrations.
G.K. Mahantesh, Managing Trustee of Samarathanam explained how Braille had enriched the life of the visually impaired persons all over the world and made it more meaningful. It gave the visually impaired persons freedom to read and write and made their living comfortable. A book titled "KARNATAKA MUSIC IN BRAILLE" written by noted musician Indira was released on the occasion. The organizers also felicitated sportspersons with visually impairment for their outstanding performances in various national level tournaments. Veena, a student of Kala Spoorthi gave a musical performance. KPMG sponsored gifts in the form of bags to all the participants.
