Poompuhar's Craft Bazar in Jayanagar

Over 100 artisans from all over the country will showcase their handicraft products at Craft Bazar, the all India handicrafts expo being organized by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd popularly known as "Poompuhar".
Sri Shankar Bidari, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Bangalore City, cut the inaugural tape at the inaugural ceremony on Jan 16.
A wide range of products will be on display ranging from Bronze Icons, Wood Carvings, Brass Lamps, Tanjore Art Plates, Tanjore Paintings, Clay, Terra Cotta, Stone, Papier Mache Idols, Rose Wood Furniture's, Rose Wood and Teak Wood Pooja Mandapams, Kashmir Wooden Articles, Jute Products, Sea Shells, Flooring Carpets, Fashion Jewellery, Jaipur Paintings, Leather Articles, Agarbathies, Madurai, Varanasi, Lucknow Chikkan Sarees, Rajasthan Bed Spreads, Churidars and many more.
TNHDC regularly promotes the works of poor but skilled craftsmen and thus give them a means of livelihood and recognition. It markets the products of such craftsmen through its 18 showrooms in addition to exhibitions held all over the country. The company also has its own production units in the crafts of Bronze Icons, Brass Lamps, Thanjavur Art Plate, Sandal Wood Carving and Stone Carvings.
In addition to sales and production activities, Poompuhar is the only State owned handicrafts Corporation which takes up various temple projects viz. making gold, silver and wooden chariots, dwajasthambam, bells, brass "Q" lines, doors etc. It has to its credit prestigious projects like Golden Chariot for Lord Balaji, Tirupathi, Golden Chariot for Sir Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore, Chennai Golden Chariot for Sri Kamatchiamman Temple, Mangadu, Chennai, Golden Chariot for Sri. Subramaniaswamy Temple, Sivanmalai near Erode, Golden Chariot for Sri Subramaniaswamy Temple, Marudhamalai near Coimbatore and "Q" lines made of brass for temples at Kalahasti, Vemulawada, Sri Sailam, Kasapuram and Yadagirigutta (Andhra).
Recently the corporation supplied 8V£ copper sheet gold coated Kalasam to Sidhartha Vikhar (Buddha Temple), Gulbarga.
