Vastu for Industry
By Sudha Pai
Vastu Analysis for an industry requires a multidisciplinary approach since an industry is a complex amalgamation of different activities. In an industrial environment, there is a need to maximize output by exploiting the workforce, there is a need for leadership and strategic decisions that decide the fate of the industry itself, and there is a need for frictionless movement of men and materials in limited area. There is a need for active involvement of workers, a need for congenial environment amidst chaotic, usually least healthy environment and still have good relationship between the management and the workforce. In a nutshell, it takes a great balancing act.
It is crucial and beneficial for the industrial fraternity to exploit the tenets of Vastu Shastra to bring out the directional virtues of the total area for successful balancing of the above-mentioned activities and achieve higher productivity and profitability.
Industrial spaces are analyzed based on the flow of energy helix, since the area involved is generally huge compared to residential plots. Different parts of the industry are studied individually on the basis of form and shape of the structure/ plot and all the individual pieces are put together to synthesize the bigger picture. This requires an in-depth insight into the provisions of Vastu Shastra and many can go wrong at this stage itself.
The following information is useful to evaluate the vastu compliancy of an industry and to take timely action to remedy the situation if need be:
* Selection of the plot to be done carefully, avoid hilly terrain to North and East directions and avoid slopes/ depressions / canals to South and West.
* Main building should be in SW, its shape should be ideally rectangular or square with good North-South Axis.
* Maximum ventilation and light to come from Source directions namely north and East. AVOID incorporating North-Light roof slopes altogether as this will increase exposure to scorching solar radiation, which will lead to disturbed electromagnetic field aligned to the structure. It is common observation that Industrial units with North-Light roof structures suffer from reduced productivity and face closure. All such structures need critical rectifications for qualitative improvement.
* Incorrect shapes and slopes of the plot have to be re-shaped by landscaping and by achieving an external helix. Trees and plants should be strategically planted based on "Vruksha Vichar" of Vastu Shastra. This not only provides a green belt, but also improves the biorhythm of the whole environment.
* The boundary should be clearly demarcated with the help of a rhythmic helical compound. This will link the solar stream to the ground profile. Proper loading to site margins will re-define relationship between ground and structure.
* Sinking of bore wells should be only in Northeast/ North and Septic tank/ pit should be located only in NW.
* Entries should be in proper directions.
* The structural blocks should be placed in such a way that South and West are blocked and there is free streaming of north and east.
* Cabins for decision-makers should be placed in SW and they should be seated facing North. Southwest represents the highest point of energy helix and the decisions will flow to lower levels without frictions. This is because the north-facing executives will benefit immensely from the eternally flowing jaivik force from north. Other staff and workers should face East to align with pranik energy and remain active due to the ever-changing solar positions.
* Cosmic helix in the building to be achieved through usage of colours, flooring materials etc.
* Arrangement of heavy machinery and storage units should be to the south, southwest and west directions.
* Provision of additional floor is in the southwest.

* Zoning of activities should be specific to the following directions to achieve better co-ordination and cohesion in the activities:
Zone Activity
East Accounts and Legal
West Canteen/Retiring room/Toilets
Northeast Research and development
Northwest Finished products
Southeast Boilers/ thermal activity
Southwest Chief Executive's Office (south side)
Southwest Heavy loads
The list is only suggestive and not exhaustive. In most of the cases, where some/ many of the above guidelines are flouted and the industries are facing the ill-effects of vastu deficiencies, remedial measures will breathe fresh life.
