Dr Kumar, Scalene

For this biophysicist, the Future is Here

Dr. Rajah Vijay Kumar, a pioneering researcher and an opinion leader in the field of Biophysics, radiobiology and modern telecommunication, founded Scalene. Specialized in Medical Engineering, he had a vision to achieve, what he thought that the world might need in the next 15 to 20 years to come.
Scalene today has many doctoral, post graduates and graduates, selflessly working to provide engineering solutions to human problems. Scalene also trains many undergraduates and graduate and doctoral students from various universities in their industrial projects, dissertations and thesis, with an aim that they contribute to the world in a better way.

Now a Scientific Marvel of the 21st Century.
Considered to be one of the greatest achievements of the this century, Rotational Field Quantum Nuclear Magnetic Resonance or RFQMR in short is a technology using communication, Computing and control engineering to deliver precise dose of non-ionising radiation to selected tissues in human body to alter its cellular characteristics. First to achieve this was Dr. Rajah Vijay Kumar and his team at the Centre for Advanced Research and Development (CARD) based on 21 years of research conducted by Dr. R.V. Kumar.
Today with the success of the whole Body RFQMR called CYTOTRON -864, it is a dream come true. The CYTOTRON -864 is the ultimate machine for the treatment of Human Cellular disorders and in the future, may be used to manipulate different viruses that are not responsive to current medical solutions.
The CYTOTRON  (smaller version with 288 guns), were used to conduct clinical trials in the treatment of osteoarthritis and terminal stage malignant disorders or Cancer. The outcome of these trials were excellent as declared by third party audit conducted at CARD. The CYTOTRON  (Smaller Version with 288 guns) has since been used by hospitals and clinics in different countries for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Some of these centers will be selectively licensed to use the device for the treatment of terminal cancer patents in the days to come.
Currently clinical trials are going on in treatment of malignancy in general, Neuronal re- mylanation studies as in Multiple Sclerosis, by stimulating the Conectcent-32 protein. A clinical trial is proposed to be started in October 2008, in using the machine for Hepatopancreatic dysfunction or commonly called Type II Diabetes Mellitus by stimulation of cyclic adenosine 3'5', monophosphate response element binding protein (CREB-Ca2+ Protein) pathway to re-establish glucose regulation.
The future trials are planned during the next 5 years are Applications in many degenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, Cerebro-spinal degeneration, Muscular dystrophy etc.,
Why does it take so much of time to trial on various disorders? The treatment given using RFQMR technique is tissue specific and protein guided using Trans-Membrane Potential (TmP) Pathways. It is established that TmP is one of the known cellular signaling pathways. TmP pathways also regulate synthesis of various proteins at the appropriate time in the living cells.
Many illnesses - like cancer, heart disease, degenerative disorders like cartilage loss and different kind of inflammation - are also linked to disturbances in the protein transcription process. In each indications of use the specific responsible protein has to be first identified, their relationship with TmP pathways have to be studied, then from the structure of the specific protein one has to estimate the hydrogen covalent and monovalent bonds, all this will lead to the TmP manipulation required to turn-on or turn-off the specific protein.
It is only after this stage that the user of the machine produces the dosimetry for a particular treatment. Dosimetry as such is not a difficult process, as the user is trained to feed the required parameters and the machine does the rest. All these steps take several days or sometimes months, this is the reason that development of treatments for different indications takes time.
The design development and implementation has to follow very strict scientific path, if the present and future benefits of RFQMR techniques have to benefit the mankind.

SCALENE - THE ORGANISATION

The organization De Scalene was established in 1993, to promote Science, Technology and Medical Engineering with a global interest. Scalene Engineers Private Limited was the first company that was established to design, develop and manufacture Medical devices under the techno-commercial co-operation of ASKIT kft. of Hungary. The first of the products were Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring System (ABPM) and Non-Invasive Cardiac output Monitors. Scalene started independent research into cardiovascular cartography in 1993 and successfully developed the first prototype of HAEMOTRON in 1998.
In the year 2000, Scalene Cybernetics Limited was established, with it's research and development wing, the Centre for Advanced Research and Development (CARD). Scalene Engineers transferred all ongoing research projects to CARD.
In 2001, Scalene shifted its operations to its own campus, the S-CARD campus in Bangalore. CYTOTRON research initiated by Scalene Engineers in 1996 was also transferred to CARD. In 2001 CARD produced the first prototype of CYTOTRON a six gun version for experimental studies a 96-gun version for radiobiology application was completed in the following year. There after three more prototypes were developed. Clinical trials were conducted on about 300 volunteer patients, the results were remarkable. Cytotron was commercialized in July 2006, and ever since there have been 16 selected installation in India and Abroad. Benefits of CYTOTRON will soon be available in many other countries during the years to come.

Simultaneously with the developments in Medical engineering, Scalene also was active in defense research with the collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, Electronics Directorate, Republic of Hungary. Scalene worked on Force on Force Combat Training System (FOFTF), with MCEME in India. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) was another area that Scalene was actively participating. A project on pollution control systems was initiated in 1999, and we have already completed the stage one of the project. When implemented, this project would aid into large-scale control of micro pollutants. There are many other projects on the R&D table of Scalene that would change the world in the years to come.
Started on a windy winter day in the November of 1993 in Bombay with a paid-up Capital of just Rs.200/-, today Scalene has grown to a tangible net asset value of over Rs.100 million and intangible assets of over Rs.150 billion, over the next 10 years, by way of its current intellectual property.
