World Braille Day

Jeeyar Educational Trust, Bangalore is rganizing an awareness event on the occasion of World Braille Day on Jan 4, 2009 to support the blind and visually challenged in association with Samarthanam Charitable Trust for the Disabled and Visually Impaired. Venue is GSB Conventional Hall near South End Circle, Basavanagudi. His Holiness Sri Tridandi Chinna Swamiji will inaugurate. The program will comprise of a variety of skits, songs, and cultural entertainments, followed by lunch.
The participation fees will be Rs.500/-. All contributions will go to the noble cause of empowering the blind, and to fund the activities of Jeeyar Educational Trust.
Under the guidance of Sri Chinna Jeejar Swamiji, Jeeyar Education Trust (JET) runs schools for visually challenged students. Poor blind students are given 100% free education, boarding, lodging clothes and medical facilities. Besides regular syllabus they are also offered free vocational courses, sports and meditation. For the first time in the world in 2007. intermediate students were trained to take State Board exams using laptops instead of scriber, this avoided the challenge of dependency on scriber.
Established in 2001, Jet Netra Vidyalay caters to 108 students from class 1 to 10, and imparts vocational courses like music, making plastic bags, candles, dinner leaves. In 2007, the JET Netra Junior college started functioning as the first ever Junior college for blind students.
