First Preliminary Sitting of Justice B K Somasekhara Commission of Inquiry

The first preliminary sitting of the Justice BK Somasekhara Commission of Enquiry was held on December 8, 2008. The scope of the enquiry covers the recent attacks on the places of worship in Bangalore Urban and Rural Districts.
Having regard to the facts and circumstances of the matter, the Commission shall be entitled to exercise  all or any of the powers under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 and all allied laws and specifically the additional powers under Section 5 of the Act. 
The Government of Karnataka constituted the Justice B.K. Somasekhara Commission of Inquiry to enquire into certain matters of public importance and to submit the report by virtue of its powers under Section 3(1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 (Central Act 60/52) with the following terms of reference:  To inquire into the sequence of events and circumstances leading to attack on the places of worship and incidents thereafter which occurred during the month of September 2008 in Dakshin Kannada and other districts of Karnataka; To identify persons and organizations responsible for the above incidents; To ascertain whether there was any negligence or lapses on the part of district administration in dealing with the situation; and Any other matter which arises from or is connected with or incidental to any act or omission relating to the said incidents, including steps and measures to be taken to prevent recurrence of such events in future.
