Five Grains of Sugar returns
Five Grains of Sugar, written by Manav Kaul, which opened in Bangalore in June 2008 and has since performed ten shows, is making a comeback at the Ranga Shankara on Dec 16-18.
The original play in Hindi, Shakkar ke paanch daane, was performed recently at the prestigious Prithvi Theatre Festival in Mumbai.
Synopsis of Five Grains of Sugar:
Five Grains of Sugar is a play about life, art, and the reality of a banal existence. The play recounts the personal journey of Rajkumar - a young man from a small town in India, where nothing spectacular ever happens. The play revolves around the choices he makes, especially when pushed into a corner. Rajkumar goes through his everyday life with idyllic charm and is surrounded by characters who are as irrepressible; A failed poet who insists on refining his taste, a mother with a strong taste for gory action films, an old Gandhian who is still reliving his single meeting with Gandhi, a dazzling hero from school, and an invisible long distance friend. Rajkumar's is a universal journey filled with delightful events and speckled with life-changing experiences.
Philosophy, poetry and art make great things possible. Rajkumar realises at some point that life is not a destination he needs to arrive at, but an experience he needs to get in touch with.
