Suchitra announces 3rd Bengalooru International Film Festival- 2009
Festival to begin fr om January 16, 2009
Enthused by the signal success of the first two Bengalooru International Film Festivals held in 2007 and 2008, Suchitra Cinema & Cultural Academy has announced the 'Third Bengalooru International Film Festival' (BIFF) between January 16 and 22, 2009 at the Vision Cinemas multiplex, K. H. Patil Auditorium and the Suchitra Auditorium. The five - screen bonanza of world cinema is being organized in collaboration with the Government of Karnataka and supported by the Kannada film industry. The keenly awaited third edition of the Festival will be inaugurated at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall on the evening of January 15, 2009 in the presence of top film, television and political personalities. The gala event will also feature a specially designed cultural show.
The Festival itself will present over 70 outstanding films from nearly 40 countries at the Vision Cinemas and 35 more films in DVD format on the wide screen at the K. H. Patil Auditorium on the same round. There will be an exclusive session of International children's films at the Suchitra auditorium throughout the week. Efforts are being made to screen some landmark Kannada films at the Badami House in N. R. Square to mark the Platinum Jubilee Year of Kannada Cinema, said Mr. Subha Rao, Chairman of Suchitra Cinema & Cultural Academy in the press meet organized at the Press Club on 18th which was attended by Dr. Jayamala, the President of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, H.N. The Festival will have a strong Kannada content in the form of an exclusive photo exhibition tracing the growth and development of Kannada cinema over the past 75 years, screening of three Kannada films selected for the Indian Panorama section of the forthcoming Indian International Film Festival in Goa and a full day warm-up Seminar on 75 years of Kannada cinema at the K. H. Patil Auditorium on December 21, 2008. Many leading lights of the Kannada film industry will be participating in this introspective exercise.
The 95-year old doyen, Mr. B. S. Ranga who as producer, director, studio owner and cinematographer, has done yeoman service to Kannada cinema during his illustrious career spanning over seven decades, will be honored on the last day of the Festival. A monograph in English on Mr. Ranga is also being published. The life and work of the celebrated director, the late N. Lakshminarayan, is being documented in two books, one in Kannada and another in English, to be published during the festival.
Another highlight of the Festival will be a two-hour long video presentation on the growth and development of Kannada film music over these 75 years under the guidance of the celebrated music director, Mr. Hamsalekha. Also being planned as a part of the Festival is a workshop on animation. Other major seminars, lectures and workshops with festival delegates and eminent film personalities are also envisaged.
More than a dozen foreign delegates and nearly 50 Indian delegates from all over the country are expected to enrich the festival, which will have various sections like cinema of the world, world classics, retrospectives, tributes and special interest films. There will also be an exclusive section for international documentaries. Like last year, students of communication and journalism will bring out a 'Daily Bulletin' recording various activities connected with the festival. In addition, special incentives are being offered to students to participate in the festival as delegates.
Finer details about the Festival are being worked out. Dr. Jayamal addressing the media said, "We are proud to be back with the third edition of the Bengalooru International Film Festival. It is our privilege to focus on the Platinum Jubilee of 'Kannada Cinema' and showcasing its major achievements. We want more international directors to watch our films this time."
The beget for the festival would come upto Rs.60 lack and the government is come forward to give only 20 lack and the rest will be collected from the other sponsors with the help of Dr. Jaimala said Mr.Subha Rao.
We will have 8 Italian movies and 4 from Norway out of 120 movies we will have 90 as English 10 of other Indian languages other than Kannada, the whole idea of conducting this festival is to make Kannada films known globally and also to understand their films to make kannada movies go overseas, this Films festival is consider one the best festival which was appreciated by the Government of Karnataka last year said Mr. N. The organizing committee is headed by veteran journalist and Chairman of the Suchitra Cultural Cinema and Cultural Academy, V.N. Subba Rao, Renowned Critic and Cultural Journalist Dr. Vijaya is the Associate Chairperson and film academician N. Vidyashankar is the Executive Director, while H. N. Suchitra, now 38 years old, is a flagship association and a cultural landmark in Bangalore. The Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy has under its umbrella the society, Suchitra Kalakendra and Suchitra Bal Jagat, all cut out for specific activities concerning cinema, theatre and performing arts. A large number of film festivals representing the cream of creative cinema from all over the world have been connected so far under the aegis of Suchitra.
