Curtain-raiser for the Great Walkathon-2008

As a pre-curtain raiser, young volunteers from various NGOs and corporates attended a meeting about the great walkathon 2008 slated for Saturday, Dec 6, at Kanteerava Stadium from 3 pm onwards, to be followed by various cultural events. The event is being held as part of the World Disabled day which falls on Dec. 3rd.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Sudesh Venkatesh , Chief HR of Tisco, along with Mr. Mahantesh, managing trustee of Samarthanam Trust, Ms. Vasantha, Trustee, Ganesh Prasad,  Director Systems and Process of Samarthanam,  Ms. Mamatha the coordinator for Walkathon. The participants dwelt at length on various event details such as help desk, food committee, logistics, inaugural coordinating committee, VIP celebrity handling committee and physically challenged care committee. Here’s what the participants said about how inspiring it is to be a part of such an event:
Sudesh Venkatesh: It will be my 4th walkathon, when I walked with the differently abled people. I found new sources of optimism, they have no self pity, found great sense of helping each other. The experience has significantly changed the attitudes and behaviour of some of our employees.

Prithivi, Senior Volunteer: I am a brand of Samarthanam I am associated with them ever since its inception, I studied in a Kannada medium school, and lacked in communication skills. Samarthanam taught me all this, and with their help, I joined a software company.
Mahantesh: We have added many more new differently abled people, volunteers, companies, other NGOs. Last year we had around twenty thousand participants and this year we are expecting around thirty thousand. We are also bringing out a souvenir and are expecting a lot of celebrities and eminent personalities to be a part of this event.
