Artist Furrah Syed

Playing with colors and textures on canvas

A London-born artist with family roots in Hyderabad, artist Furrah Syed's work has achieved an exhilarating new dimension since her move to India in 2006.  Prior to pursuing a career in the corporate fields of banking, finance and marketing, she studied Fine Art and Textile Design along with Art History. The move to India rekindled her passion for art and motivated her to once again put to canvas the imaginative mix of colours and textures inspired by the dynamic vibrancy of life in India.

Furrah's works show a strong commitment to colour, texture and movement. While primarily interested in 'pure' colour and the drama created by the interaction of brush strokes and various other tools with pigment, her bold experimentations using mixed media have been well received within the art community.

Her paintings have a very strong visual effect and compel you to delve into the world of a purely abstract expression of vivid emotions, pure energy and turbulent moods.

On seeing the way Furrah captures a multitude of movement on a two-dimensional medium, the viewer is hypnotized with the immense energy pulsating from the paintings and is drawn into the exuberance of colours and variety of textures on the canvas.

To avoid any disruption or distraction during this intriguing interaction with her works, Furrah deliberately signs each piece not on the front but rather on the reverse side of each canvas.  This also allows the viewer to rotate the canvas and appreciate her work in a variety of orientations.

A sensitive soul

Always striving to derive more out of life Furrah's energy in everything she does is infectious as is her sense of humour and laughter.  She is deeply passionate about contributing back to society, and does her utmost to make the lives of people around her more enriching and satisfying. She contributes to a community that struggles to survive amidst the lifestyles of the elite by donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her paintings to Bangalore based charities benefiting under privileged children.

Furrah is the founder of a booming mums club for the mothers of children studying at her daughter's school in Bangalore, she is an active member of the expat society in Bangalore, and heavily promotes all that this city has to offer, especially to those new to the city.  Furrah is currently learning to play classical piano, and when she finds time to play host, she is famous for her Hyderabadi Biryani. She has extensively indulged in her passion for travel by visiting many destinations in India and beyond and, in the process, has derived a vast amount of inspiration for her art from each journey.

First Solo Exhn
Furrah has participated in a number of group shows in Bangalore and has been commissioned by corporate and private clients in India, Dubai, UK and USA. This show is her first solo exhibition. The paintings on display capture her many moods and the essence of her soul through an electric mix of vibrant colors and fascinating textures that define the art of Furrah Syed. She feels strongly about keeping her works as 'Untitled', to avoid restricting in any way the viewers interpretation of her abstract creations.  The viewers own personal visual journey should not be constrained or influenced by attaching a title to the art.  Her exhibition is simply called "The Collection".
