Free Reading Room and Library Project
Bibliophiles rejoice. Jayanagar MLA BN Vijaykumar presided over the foundation laying stone ceremony for a free reading room and library at Vysya Bank Colony, J.P. Nagar 1st Phase, on Thursday. The library is coming on a CA site measuring 36x20 sft. The event was organized by JP Nagar Residents welfare association. S.K. Nataraj, area former Corporator, B. Somashekar, Jayanagar Ex.-Corporator, Ramachandra, president of Association, Udupa, secretary, Potha Setty and other members and residents were present.
Addressing the gathering, Nataraj revealed that the locals had been alert against mischievous elements encroaching upon this site. They put up a board saying that the property belonged to CA of Vysya Bank Colony and approached the MLA who quickly got through the procedural sanction for a reading room. .
On his part, Vijayakumar complimented the residents for being alert and preventing encroachment of land.
Initially the library cum reading room will come up on the ground floor. More floors will be added depending on the response from the people, he said. Vijaykumar also cautioned the people not to lose their enthusiasm and interest in course of time. If they showed good response over a continuous period of time, he promised to expand the utility for more such social causes, he said.

The existing library near 9th Block, Ragigudda temple, was an ideal example to emulagte, he told the residents association. He also appealed to the association to keep useful books pertaining to Engineering, Biotechnology and General Knowledge apart from the regular books and news papers.
Ashok, Assistant Engineer, BBMP said the project would cost Rs. 5 lakhs and will be completed in 6 months with proper compound and toilet facility and quality work.
