Unravelling the many sides of Revathy

Actor, director, dancer, and social worker, Revathy has performed all these roles with aplomb. The multi-faceted actress spoke to TWB after inaugur ating Cinema Paradiso, the DVD library in Jayanagar. Excerpts from the interview:

Her real name: Asha Kelunni, native of Kochi, born to a Major in the Indian army. Director Bharatiraja named her Revathi after her first film Mann Vaasanai.


Her comeback film: Nishabd, with Amitabh Bachchan, to be released in Feb 2007.

Her favorite directors: Guru Dutt and Bimal Roy of the previous era, and later Bharatiraja, Mani Ratnam, Balachander, Balu Mahendran.

Role model: None.

Her favorite movie: Mouna Ragam, Anjali, Thevar Magan (for which she won a national award as best sup porting actress), Thalimurai (won a State Award for best film), Kilukam (M alayalam), Ankuram (Telugu).

On why she’s not acting much in Tamil nowadays: After 2 decades of acting in the south, I now wish to reach a wider audience. I am also busy with my social work.

·Which gives her the most satisfaction – acting, dance, directing, social service: Anything you do with full heart in any field will give you satisfaction. It is true for the film field as well.

On why most heroines quit acting after marriage, while heroes continue to act even after their children become heroes
: It depends on the individual, glamour and physique. Usually, women tend to lose their glamour once they cross 35. But there are some exceptions, for instance, Kajol is making a comeback and has retained her charm and glamour.
