Greenwood High International School recently received the OHSAS 18001:2007 certificate for management of health and safety in their campus. The OHSAS 18001:2007 Certification was awarded by Moody International and the Certificate is Accredidated by a Malaysian accrediting company. Greenwood High is incidentally the only school inIndiato have been awarded with such a certification.

The certificate is awarded based on an international standard for defining occupational safety and health program (OHSAS). The OHSAS, by creating a safe and healthy environment, builds trust and confidence amongst parents, students and staff. It involves implementing new safety trends that reduces accidents and potential litigation besides increasing the safety and credibility of the educational institution.

Says Bijay Agarwal, Chairman,GreenwoodHighInternationalSchool, “It is important to put in place high levels of safety and health standards as this provides a significant comfort zone for both parents and staff.”

At Greenwood High, special efforts have been taken to ensure high levels of safety for children and staff. For instance, besides having a GPS tracking system in all their school buses, the drivers have to take an alcohol test just before taking over the vehicle, both in the morning and evening.

“This test ensures that there is no possibility of any driver at any time taking over the wheels under the influence of alcohol”, adds Agarwal.

Besides, the buses are put through rigorous maintenance checks to ensure their safety as well as smooth running, where breakdowns are negligible.

Similarly, no employee is outsourced in the campus. Being on the pay roll of the management ensures that the employees are hired after stringent enquiries, thus ensuring the safety of the children. Besides these, regular maintenance of school facilities, fire drills, installation of equipment that incorporate high quality and safety standards are other measures adopted to ensure a safe atmosphere for the students and staff.

Besides safety, health too receives equal emphasis in the campus, with the health and nutrition of the students and staff accorded high priority. The menu designed by a professional dietician, yet incorporating plenty of variety to make it attractive for children to look forward to their meals, is a case in point.

The campus has two nurses available round the clock to attend to any emergency. An ambulance to attend to any emergency is again available round the clock in the school premises. The school has also tied up with a hospital to handle any hospitalisation emergencies.
