BIT hosts Virtual SAEINDIA BAJA 2013

Bangalore Institute of Technology has been selected among the 10 top engineering colleges of Bangalore to host Virtual SAEINDIA BAJA 2013 on the 24th and 25th of August 2012.This is a National level design event conducted by SAE-INDIA (Society of Automotive Engineers) for which Mahindra is the title sponsor for the event and this year Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is jointly hosting the Virtual round.

Most of you would be wondering what is this event all about. Virtual SAEINDIA BAJA is the screening round for the main SAEINDIA BAJA event to be held in February 2013 in Pithampur, near Indore. For the screening 300 Engineering colleges from across the country registered and shall come for the Virtual round at BIT where they are supposed to present their Designs for the BAJA Buggy vehicle they wish to design for the final event. BIT will be hosting more than 1500 engineering students for the two days as well 80 judges. The judges are  from top Automobile companies like Mahindra, Cummins,ARAI,General Motors, ICAT,GE etc who shall evaluate and select the top 100 teams which get to go for the final round in Feburary next year.Only the 100 selected teams actually get to manufacture their own Buggy race car.

The evaluation process is not a simple one, since judges have to analyse and compare the CAD Designs, the ANSYS analysis, the Suspension designs etc and then select only 100 colleges out of 300 registered teams. It is definitely a hard task for them and two days intense work.

To answer the question as to why such events are required in the present day Education system, we have our Executive council member of VTU, Dr. S Vidyashankar to share his idea ” Around 2 lakh Mechanical and Automobile Engineering students are graduating every year. And through VTU it has been my aim to ensure that these young budding engineers are well trained for the real time scenarios they face in the industries. To enable our students to encounter the practical issues in automobile sector it is very important for us as educationalist that we expose them to such National Level Design Events.”

Bangalore Institute of Technology’s Principal Dr. K R Suresh , VTU Vice chancellor Dr. H Maheshappa have been ever encouraging to host this event and help students experience  the real Engineering world.
