The festival attracts more than 2 million visitors every year.
Mumbai July 3, 2012 : The 15th Mud Festival will be held from July 14 ~ July 24 2012 at Daecheon Beach, it is the city of Boryeong, 200 kilometers south of Seoul, South Korea.
Local residents and foreigners visit the city of Boryeong, to enjoy the summer heat at the annually held festival.
The Boryeong Mud Festival is an annual festival which takes place over a period of around two weeks in the month of July. The first Mud Festival was staged in 1998 and, by 2007, the festival attracted 2.2 million visitors to Boryeong.
The mud is of Boryeong mud flats and is considered to be rich in minerals and is actually used to manufacture cosmetics. The festival was conceived to promote a range of cosmetics that were produced using mud from the Boryeong mud flats. The festival has grown incredibly popular ever since.
The Festival attracts the largest number of international visitors who descend on Daecheon beach each July to partake in the mud wrestling Competition, mud marathon, mud painting, mud massage, and slither down a hundred foot mud super slide.
Festival-goers clean their mud-covered bodies easily by simply rushing into the sea in front of the festival venue. After sunset, the beach comes alive under the stars as festival-goers cool off from the daytime’s feverish events. Through the night, there’s music and fireworks display on the beach.
The most distinctive point of the festival is to create a united place where people from all over the world come together and meet new people and are able to break down walls of age, nationality, race and have fun together.
